The Features and benefits of the CLP-625
Real Grand Expression
Real Grand Expression. This phrase defines the expressive capability of Clavinova. It is not only the full realization of the sound, the touch and the pedals, but the application of technologies nurtured by crafting acoustic pianos to perfectly integrate these three elements into a single piano. This piano produces that exact sound you want through the touch of the keys and the feel of the pedals. As you play, you will truly feel as though you are playing a grand piano.
The CLP Piano Sound
Two World Class Concert Pianos
The CLP offers two of the world’s finest 9 foot grand pianos to choose from. The CFX, Yamaha’s premier piano is a 9 foot concert grand made by the finest Japanese artisans and technicians Yamaha has to offer. The Bösendorfer Imperial is a hand made piano crafted in the Viennese tradition of fine piano making to encompass a sound with warm bass resonance, singing treble and rich tonal colors. Bösendorfer has a rich history of being the piano of choice of Franz List, Brahms and Johann Strauss.
Both of these superb pianos’ Voices are featured in the Clavinova. Tuned to perfection by a highly-experienced piano technician with the sound from each key sampled individually, Clavinova truly captures the unique tonal character of each of these outstanding instruments.
An Additional 8 sounds are present on the CLP to stimulate your musical expression.
Piano – CFX Grand, Bösendorfer Imperial Grand, Pop Grand and Binaural CFX Grand (head phones only).
Electric piano – Stage E. piano, DX. Electric Piano and Vibraphone.
Organ – Pipe Organ and Jazz Organ.
Strings – Strings, are available to be used on their own or can be layered with piano or other sounds to give greater depth and expression to what you are playing.
Historic Instrument – Harpsichord is on the piano to recreate your favorite early period classical music. These voices also features historic touch settings of the Harpsichord so variation of touch will produce the same sound.
Virtual Reality CFX Head Phone Sound
When choosing the CFX Grand setting while wearing headphones the musician will be immersed in the sound of CFX as if they are sitting at the real acoustic piano. Binaural sampling uses special microphones that capture not only the sound but the location the sound is coming from to give the human ear a 3d effect.
The sound is heard just as it was played.
The grand piano voices of the Clavinova CLP 635 were obtained by recording the sounds of a Yamaha CFX concert grand piano. A single piano best suited for recording was selected and then tuned to the finest possible condition by a veteran piano tuner. All the sounds were recorded with meticulous detail resulting a beautiful, harmonious piano Voice.
Smooth tonal transformations perfectly matched to key pressure
Pianists can change the volume of the sound – as well as its dynamics – to achieve both mellow and bright tones by simply changing the pressure they apply to the keys.
The Clavinova features long, carefully-sampled recordings of notes on a piano, reproduces them in rich detail and utilizes unique Yamaha technologies to achieve smooth tonal transitions in response to the touch of the player.
From staccato to legato – superbly expressive sound that responds to the player’s touch
Featuring Yamaha Smooth Release technology, Clavinova offers the crisp tone heard when playing staccato as well as the lingering sound produced by releasing the keys more. This provides finely-nuanced response to the pianist’s playing.
The moment your fingers are lifted from the keys of a grand piano, subtle changes occur in the instrument’s tone as the damper is lowered onto the strings to mute the sound. Key-off samples feature actual recordings of these changes, offering a faithful reproduction of the most subtle nuances in the piano’s tone, creating a more realistic overall sound.
The CLP Piano Action
Graded Hammer 3X (GH3X) keyboard
The newly developed GH3X keyboard features an escapement mechanism that reproduces the feel of an acoustic piano as it goes through the let-off of the jack and the fall of the hammer when a key is played very softly.
Utilizing the same hammering system and spring-less mechanism as a grand piano, the Graded Hammer Mk III (GH3) keyboard action reproduces the touch of an acoustic piano from the heavy feel in the lower register to the lighter touch in the upper octaves. It also features the three-sensor configuration, which accurately senses and interprets the behavior of the keyboard for a response and feel very similar to that of a grand piano.
Synthetic ivory keytops – a pleasure to play even after hours of performance
Reproduces the gentle, tactile surface of the ivory keyboards once used in only the finest pianos. It features highly-absorbent material that prevents fingers from slipping even after hours of performing, while retaining the ideal texture and feel.
Keyboard Stabilizers – Yamaha-unique mechanisms for improved keyboard stability and durability
Keyboards fulfill the vital role of transforming emotion from your fingertips into sound and therefore, must be smooth to play in order to maintain superb touch for prolonged performances. That is why Yamaha has fitted Keyboard Stabilizers to all 88 keys, offering players a natural touch and improving the stability and durability of the keyboard.
Natural feel, even on the back-end of the keys
Clavinova key tips are far from the fulcrum, so the keys sink smoothly when played near the base
The keys on the Clavinova are constructed so that the support point hidden inside the instrument body is as far from the key tip as possible, improving playability and comfort, even deep on the back of the key.
This construction provides good key travel, even when performing pieces played mainly on the black keys and the backs of the white keys, allowing nuanced variations in touch and broadening your expressive range.
CLP Digital Piano Technology
THE MECHANICS OF SUPERIOR SOUND
Full-body resonance, just like an acoustic piano
Similar to an acoustic piano, the Clavinova is calibrated carefully, with speaker positioning and body materials checked to ensure that the entire instrument resonates optimally. For a sound image that is very close to the grand piano, these instruments feature Tone Escapement in several locations throughout the body that allow the sound from the speakers to be projected to the listener’s ears without being trapped inside the instrument.
Acoustic Optimizer – Regulation to ensure a balanced tone
The body of the Clavinova contains Acoustic Optimizers that regulate the flow of sound and control tone. A new technology springing from Yamaha’s intimate knowledge of the acoustic properties of the interiors of musical instruments, Acoustic Optimizers deliver natural, smooth feel and tone across the entire keyboard.
IAC (Intelligent Acoustic Control), perfect for playing at home
The ability to adjust performance volume is extremely useful at home where players may not always be able to play at high volume levels. Often at low volumes, both bass and treble may become difficult to hear. To counter this, Clavinova is equipped with Intelligent Acoustic Control (IAC), which adjusts the sound automatically, allowing players to enjoy balanced sound at any volume level.
Conserve energy with convenient auto power off feature
Auto power off shuts down the instrument after a period of inactivity. You can customize how long it will wait before shutting down, or disable it if you prefer.
