Yamaha Gallery Series and P Series

The P22 is the piano schools, universities, and teaching studios buy when the instrument has to survive a different player every hour of the working day. At 45 inches it is three inches shorter than a b3 and weighs five pounds more at 527 lbs, which is the argument for a studio upright in a single comparison: the mass is in the cabinet and frame rather than the height.

Hard maple in both the bridge and the pinblock is the other half of it. A hard-maple pinblock holds tuning pin torque longer under heavy use, which is the difference between a piano needing a technician twice a year and one needing it four times. Underneath sit a solid spruce soundboard, spruce back posts, cut-thread tuning pins, and Yamaha’s V-Pro plate.

Yamaha offers the P22 in three satin finishes: Dark Oak, Satin American Walnut, and Satin Ebony. Satin rather than polished is deliberate on an instrument handled constantly, because it hides fingerprints and can be touched up locally where polished ebony cannot.

Every new piano includes a bench, and every acoustic piano leaves the store tuned to A-440.
