Yamaha b1, b2 and b3 Upright Pianos

The three models step up in height, cabinet depth, and internal structure.

  • The Yamaha b1 stands 43 inches tall and has the smallest footprint in the range. At 384 lbs it is the lightest acoustic upright Yamaha builds, and it is the only b Series model without a caster. Three finishes: polished ebony with brass or chrome hardware, and polished white.
  • The Yamaha b2 stands 44.5 inches tall and adds a single caster, in the same 21-inch cabinet depth as the b1. It is the first model in the range you can reposition without a crew. Five finishes, adding polished mahogany and polished walnut.
  • The Yamaha b3 stands 48 inches tall, full professional height, on five back posts rather than four and 24 inches of depth rather than 21. That extra structure is why it carries 138 lbs more than the b1, and why it sounds larger than its footprint suggests. Five finishes, as the b2.

Yamaha b Series SC3 Silent Pianos

The SC3 SILENT system is fitted at the Yamaha factory, not retrofitted by a dealer afterwards. A stop rail catches the hammers just short of the strings, so the action still moves exactly as it does acoustically while the strings stay silent, and sensors read the keys and send the performance to headphones.

The point is that nothing about the touch changes. You practise on the same b Series action at two in the morning that you play acoustically at midday. Available on the b1, b2 and b3.

Yamaha b TransAcoustic Pianos

TransAcoustic takes the opposite approach to SILENT. Rather than routing the sound to headphones, the TC3 system drives transducers mounted on the soundboard, so digital voices are produced by the piano’s own soundboard rather than by a speaker cabinet.

The result is a digital sound with acoustic resonance and a volume control, in a piano that plays as a normal acoustic instrument the moment the system is switched off. Available on the b1, b2, and b3.
